TINCHY STRYDER wants to hook up with US star Keri Hilson at the MOBOs but says she’ll have to make the first move.
The Brit grime star, who topped the charts with his N-Dubz collaboration Number 1, said:
“I’m not talking about a collaboration, but I would like to hook up with Keri Hilson at the MOBOs. I’ve seen her perform but not met her before.
“She was singing at a gig while I was there, but we had no time to get together. I think she’s attractive, but I don’t think I’ll be trying anything on with her. More likely, she’ll try it on with me.”
Keri Hilson is one of the biggest names in global entertainment following the 2008 release of In A Perfect World – and now some of South Africa’s hottest dance crews have the once-off chance to work with the superstar.
Known as The Ultimate Keri Hilson Dance Challenge, this Channel O exclusive sees four top-notch dance crews vie for the opportunity to join Hilson on stage when she performs at South Africa’s Coca-Cola Dome.
Hilson is arriving in Mzansi mid-October for a trio of performances alongside John Legend: the singer and songwriter performs on Thursday, 15 October in Cape Town; Saturday, 17 October in Durban; and on Sunday, 18 October in Johannesburg.
The crew that wins The Ultimate Keri Hilson Dance Challenge will rehearse with the superstar in Durban and perform live at her Coca-Cola Dome show on Sunday, 18 October.
Footage of the dance crews battling it out will be sent to Keri in the States where the songstress and her main choreographer will judge the entries whilst in preparation of the much anticipated South African tour.
Already the competition is sizzling hot with three of the four entrants having won previous contests. They are MO5 (Channel O Urban Dance Competition Champs); Freeze Frame (Masters of Rhythm Champs); and Reptiles (Strictly Hip Hop Champs). These brilliant dance crews will be joined by the Clinch Crew in competing for The Ultimate Keri Hilson Dance Challenge winner’s crown.
Channel O viewers will be able to be part of the blood, sweat and tears of this amazing dance challenge with a two-part series to be aired on the channel. Episode one, featuring Hilson and her choreographers deciding which crew has what it takes to be on stage with the superstar, will air Thursday, 15 October at 21:00. The second episode featuring the winning crew in rehearsal and performance with Hilson will air on Thursday, 22 October at 21:00.
Keri Hilson has backed Britney Spears, saying she “means no one any harm”. The songwriter, who has penned lyrics for singer Spears, said she enjoyed working with the star.
She said: “You do hear so much but she is the most pleasant person ever. You know, she’s so sweet, means no one any harm, knows her crowd very well.
“She’s actually one of the quickest sessions I’ve ever done in my life because she just knows her voice so well, so she was very professional. “She does put in a lot of hard work and I appreciated that, I actually learned that from her.”
Hilson has written songs for stars including The Pussycat Dolls and P-Diddy. She has now released her own album.
Lupe Fiasco will be headlining at this year’s homecoming after Keri Hilson and Wale dropped out a mere three weeks away from the concert.
Wale, a Washington. D.C. area hip hop artist, was offered a spot on tour with rapper Jay-Z, according to the Campus Activities Board, who runs the homecoming concert every year.
Hilson was also made an offer for a “better” concert opportunity, but CAB doesn’t know the details of her reasons for canceling her show at Towson.
“It was really crazy for us,” CAB director May Medallada said. “We were really disappointed at first since. We already had all the promotions out and we were getting the hype up for Wale and Keri, and now obviously we’re in a time crunch.”
Fiasco, who works through the same agent as Hilson and Wale, placed high on the student survey that ran through the CAB Web site over the summer.
“We think students will be really happy.” We’re still really excited to put on the show and I know he’s excited to come here,” Medallada said.
The Union Ticket Office will issue refunds to students who have already bought tickets but don’t want to see the concert headlined by Fiasco.
Homecoming tickets already purchased with “CAB Presents Keri Hilson” printed on them will still be honored when students arrive at the concert, and new tickets will not cost extra for students.
CAB does urge students to purchase tickets before this Friday, because non-student tickets go on sale Sept. 26 and the show may sell out.
The concert will take place Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. in the Towson Center.

R & B star Keri Hilson cancelled her free live show, which was organized by the York Federation of Students (YFS) as part of its welcome week celebration.
Hilson was supposed to be the main act for the concert on Sept.16 at Downsview Park. the concert went ahead as planned, until Hilson cancelled her performance last minute.
She came on stage late at 11:30 p.m. to break the news to the 2,000-plus screaming fans.
She announced at that time that she would not be performing, and that popular hip-hop artist and York University graduate Kardinal Offishall would take her place.
“Don’t boo me on this one guys. I’m so sorry, but because of my sinuses, I can’t sing tonight,” she told the crowd.
Students had waited anxiously for Hilson’s performance, some for more than four hours. Staci Peart, YFS vice-president Not all fans disappointed with performance switch YFS rep says rescheduling possible of campus life, said she had just been released from the hospital.
“She had a throat infection, so we sent her to Sunnybrook [Health Sciences Centre] to see a specialist [before the show],” Peart said.
Hilson also mentioned onstage that she had been “tweeting” on Twitter about her illness for a couple of days before the show.
Kardinal Offishall replaced Hilson as the closing act. While Hilson made it clear to the crowd that she had called in a favour by getting Kardinal Offishall on stage, Peart claimed that YFS had called Kardinal Offishall while Hilson was in the hospital.
Other acts at the event included K’naan and DJ Roxx.
“This is the first time I’ve ever had to cancel a fucking show,” Hilson said, promising to make up for the performance within the month.
Some students were upset over the cancellation.
“That was really ridiculous. The YFS should have at least told the students that were there waiting for at least four hours that she is not gonna come,” said John Anderson, a second-year business student.
Other students expressed disappointment over the cancellation but still enjoyed the show.
“I think the first couple of acts were really great,” said Samuel Nithiananthan, a third-year political science student.
“I personally don’t blame the organizers if she was not feeling well. There is nothing we can really do about it.” Students also expressed respect for Hilson facing the students in person.
“You have to give her some credit for actually coming out on stage and apologizing,” said Robert Cerjanec, a third-year political science student and member of the Founders
College Council.
“In the grand scheme of things, I know a lot of people wanted to see Keri Hilson, but she’s at least got to get some respect for coming out here and getting someone else to perform for her.”
Peart said she was optimistic about rescheduling the Hilson concert.
“I can tell you that it won’t be possible to get things together [within a month], but we’re hoping to work something out with her for sometime in the near future,” she said.
Peart said that, due to breaks and exam schedules, it is likely that the performance will be held at the beginning of the winter semester, although no plans have yet been solidified.
Peart did make it clear that the concert would not be as large-scale as the one held this past week.
