Stars from Chris Brown and Mary J. Blige to Ludacris and Diddy came to Miami’s American Airlines Arena for BET’s “SOS Save Ourselves. Help for Haiti” telethon on Friday (February 5), expressing the extreme need for aid to the country that was devastated by a 7.0 earthquake last month. Backstage, the message was just as powerful.

“Tonight is definitely about the spirit of giving,” Keri Hilson told MTV News backstage. “No one is paid to be here. We’re all here because it was in our spirit. We felt compelled to do something, do what was in our means. We’re performers. We get up there and perform for Haiti. Whatever is what you do at home, you can do for Haiti. If you have pennies in your change tray — you don’t have to be rich. People have a misconception that only the wealthy can help Haiti. But no, you can devote your time, do whatever it is you can do. That’s why I’m here. I would love to spread that message. Do whatever is in your means, but do something.”

Keri Hilson and Ludacris will join previously announced performers Chris Brown, Mary J.Blige and Robin Thicke when they take the stage at BET’s ‘SOS: Saving Ourselves – Help For Haiti’ concert Friday.

Set to take place at Miami, Florida’s American Airlines Arena, ‘SOS – Help For Haiti’ will also feature performances from Monica, Kirk Franklin, Jazmine Sullivan, Justin Bieber, Busta Rhymes, India Arie, Damian Marley, Akon and Pitbull.

In addition to musical performances, celebrity appearances will include Trey Songz, Common, David Banner, Missy Elliott,Gloria Estefan, Pete Wentz, Chrisette Michelle, Jeremih, The Dream, Jason Derulo, T-Pain and Sean Kingston

Proceeds of the telecast will go to four charitable organizations – Yele Haiti, CARE, Project MediShare and Children’s Safe Drinking Water.

“SOS Saving Ourselves – Help for Haiti” will be streamed live on www.bet.com for desktop and mobile viewers

Akon’s “Oh Africa” music video has been premiered on January 31 night in coincidence with the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards. Featuring Akon and Keri Hilson, it showcases vibrantly-colored African visuals and has cameos from football players Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba as well as 16 young music artists from around the world.

“The whole aura of it is so fun, the color, the painting and the drums,” Akon commented on the video shoot. “It brings out all the cultural parts of Africa you can ever think of and it doesn’t even seem like a video, it seems more like a work of art that just happens to be a video. I hope you enjoy the look behind the scenes.”

“Oh Africa” is recorded for new Pepsi football TV commercial for the brand’s worldwide campaign “Refresh Your World,” which is based on enabling youth to make a positive change in the world. Proceeds from the track will benefit underprivileged African youth.
